this weekend...

this weekend

My plans for this weekend include some reading and crochet.

I'm reading The Silver Linings Playbook, I saw the trailer and had to get a copy of the book! I'm about half way through it and am hooked, if I could I would not put it down!

I'm also crocheting a baby blanket, I'm testing it in a ravelry group. It's a super cute owl blanket, I can't wait to get it finished!

What are your plans this weekend?

lacy white blanket

I sold my very first blanket ever this week! So exciting! It was made from a pattern that I never would have chose to do myself but it turned out really pretty (and hard to photograph!). The pattern is here in case you're interested, it's a quick blanket to make.

WIP

A small peek at something I started finishing yesterday (it's been sitting in a bag for a few months). The spring colors grabbed me and I had to finish it! If the sun decides to come out tomorrow, I'll share what it is tomorrow.

my creative space...

I started some new projects over the last week. I didn't plan on starting anything new until I finished grannies & ripples but there was a lot of sick happening here and I started feeling the need to see some pretty, spring like colors. They're definitely starting to do their job, I feel a little less tired working with them.

springtime

I started some new chair socks for my kitchen. My chairs still have the Christmas ones on them, time to get those changed! Two sets down, four to go.

pink willow WIP

I also started on a pink Willow blanket. I'm using Bernat Waverly in fresh flower, it's such a soft and pretty color.

Thanks for stopping by! See more creative spaces over here.

my creative space

purple blanket

I said I was going to start a new blanket for my daughter's upcoming birthday and I did, I might be just a tad bit crazy in starting it though. I originally planned on a really simple square blanket but ended up starting a Realta instead. Yes, might be a bit crazy! I'm hoping that I will get it done by the 8th of December, if not, it can always be a Christmas present.

I've got 10 octagons made and 32 more to go, plus small squares and triangles.... just writing that out scares me. The plan is to attempt not to start any new projects until after her birthday now. Keep your fingers crossed for me?

girl round ripple

I started my girl baby round ripple blanket and I'm in love with it already! I couldn't find any good colors in the Loops & Threads Impeccable, I guess they're clearing out for more of the wintery colors, so I grabbed some Bernat Waverly, it's new and so, so soft! I have quickly fallen for this yarn, it's most definitely a new favorite! The colors I'm using for this one are fresh flower, mauve glow, aqua frost, butter and brick white.

I'm packing up the groovyghan, I've started to hate the thing. I have no desire to work on it anymore, so it's going away for awhile. So, I have to start a new blanket for my daughter's birthday, I already have an idea of what I'll be doing, hopefully by next week I'll have it started. My daughter has been telling me for a few weeks that she really wants a purple blanket from me, so me stopping the groovyghan isn't so bad, she'll probably be more excited when I give her a big purple blanket instead.

baby round ripple

I stumbled onto this fun ripple-along and decided to join in! I'm planning on doing two round baby ripple blankets, one boy and one girl. I've started with the boy one. I'm using this pattern for the blanket and it's working up very fast.

As usual (pretty much), I'm using Loops & Threads Impeccable solids and a size 5.5 hook. The colors are grass, aqua, heather and clay, I think these colors look pretty good together.

I'm still working on the groovyghan when I can find the time. It's coming along slowly still, but I do have another strip finished and about to be sewn to the rest of the blanket. I should have an update to share soon, I hope. I really do need to get working on it more, there's only 7 weeks until my daughter's birthday!

groovyghan progress

groovyghan ripples

I am still working on the groovyghan but it's still pretty slow going. I've finished the ripple strip and I've been working on sewing all those ends in for the past week. I'm hoping to get it finished and sewn to the dot squares by Monday. I used the neat ripple pattern, it's an easy pattern. I didn't use any particular color sequence, I grabbed colors as I went.

As much as I enjoyed doing this ripple, I'll be happy to move on to some granny and flower squares! The ripple felt like it took forever, it's going to feel like I'm speeding with the next part.

time out cowl

will become a cowl

There's a crochet along about to start over at Maybe Matilda, the pattern being made is the Time Out Cowl. It's going to be a fun CAL with prizes to keep you motivated to finish! This project is an easy one for even a beginner crocheter and there will be lots of help, so don't be intimidated about joining in.

Since I wanted a cowl before the cold hits here, I decided to join in! I'm using Loops & Threads Charisma yarn in charcoal and off white. This yarn is super, super soft! I recently used this stuff for a baby prop and it is so great to work with. (pictures of said baby prop & some other baby props will come soon!)

Are you going to be joining in the CAL?

my creative space

I went and joined two new CAL's on ravelry yesterday. The first one is the One a Day CAL group, you pick a project and then do one element of it a day, like a granny square a day. I have been drooling over the beekeeper's quilt since it was first posted and I'm not the only one, there are many, many people making this blanket! It's a gorgeous blanket but I'm not exactly a great knitter so I wanted to figure out a crochet version. Luckily, I don't have to try and figure it out because I found a pattern to use, it's called the apiary puff (it's a ravelry download, so you may have to be a member to get it!).

Last night I printed it out, pulled out a skein of Bernat Mosaic yarn (ambrosia) and got to work using my 3.75 hook. I bought a couple skeins of this yarn when I spotted it on clearance, I bought it thinking I would make a big granny square blanket (inspired by this one) but have decided it will be good for hexi-puffs! I cheated and made two last night but they aren't stuffed yet, so it's not a big cheat!

hexi-puffing!

I also joined a CAL to make an amigurumi unicorn, I can't wait to get started on this cutie! I may end up making two so both my girls have their own and there won't be any fighting (hopefully).

dot squares for groovyghan

I have been working on the groovyghan a little. I finished all the dot motifs, just need to weave the ends in and join them together. This is definitely going to be a big blanket, this squares are bigger than my hand! The amethyst isn't photographing so great, it's looking a lot darker than it is. It probably isn't the best lighting either, taking pictures when trying to keep the blanket a secret from your snoopy child is quite difficult!

something pretty WIP

I'm using this super cute pattern called "something pretty" to make myself a happy bag! These squares are really a lot of fun to make. I'm using one of my favorite colors for the flowers, tangerine, I bought a few skeins when they were on clearance (I think they were getting rid of old labels). I wish I had gotten more, I could be happy with a drawer full of this color! This project is going to eat up all my stash of it but I guess I'll have an excuse to get more after.

I'll be making 22 squares in total and will probably be slip stitching them together with pale yellow, I could change my mind but I think it will look good!

a not for kids sampler

a "not for kids sampler"

I've got a lot of of crochet projects on the go right now, I haven't gotten any of it pictured yet. I seem to keep adding to my WIPs pile, just thinking about it makes me antsy, I must stop adding!

Other than my crochet, I started a cross-stitch sampler that I found at completely cauchy (she's no longer giving it away though). It's a word that slips out of my mouth a little too often, so I thought it would be a fun one to stitch up! This one will probably take me quite awhile since I can only bring it out when the kids are asleep or out of the house.

I'm using DMC Color Variations Floss (4050) for this, I really like it so far. When I get this one finished, it will hang out somewhere in my room, most likely out of where kids can read (until they are older anyway).

my creative space

I'm definitely back into my crochet groove, along with testing out dishcloth patterns, I am starting to crochet projects for another swap. The swap doesn't offically start until July but I'm already half way done, I like to get things done ahead of time, most of the time. I think I've got a jump on it because I'm making the things I really like to make. (it's a kitchen set swap)

This is the color scheme I'm working with. I'm using Bernat Handicrafter cottons in indigo, softly taupe, pale yellow and robins egg. They look really good together, I'm really happy with how everything is going. But, I want it all to be a surprise for the recipient so I won't be sharing any of it until it's all at it's new home.

I'm linking up with our creative spaces today.

circles

I think I'm done the table topper I posted last week, it needs some blocking though!

This week I started on something new, I'm trying to use up some of the baby yarn in my stash. I'm making a bunch of circles using the flowers in the snow pattern, you can find that here. In the end I plan on getting a baby blanket or two made.

I've got 25 squares done and lots of end sewing in to do!

table topper WIP
This is something I started in the beginning of April but I put it aside to do other things. I just picked it back to get it finished and into it's rightful spot. I'm using the ruby hexagon pattern to make a table topper for a side table. I'm making on big hexagon, there's still a few rows to go, I want it to hang off the sides.

I'm using up as much of my scrap cotton to make this as I can, as it grows, it's been harder to use the smaller bits though. I really like how it's looking right now, when it's done, I'll make sure I get a picture of it on the table!

I started a new baby blanket using a few left over colors from babette. I'm making Sunny Spread from Crochet Today. I'm really excited to see how this one comes together.

hexagons

I'm playing around with hexagons. I'm trying out something I've wanted to do for a really long time. I wanted to do it with fabric but I've decided to give it a try with crochet.

It's the start of a new blanket for my daughter. This blanket may on the go all year since she wants me to give her a blanket for her birthday... in December! Maybe she'll get an extra big one this year. Every night she tells me the colors she wants in her blanket, so I'm going to try and get all the colors in it for her.

my creative space...

my creative space

I'm working with black cotton! I was lucky enough that someone from my RAK group on ravelry wanted to send me some. You can't get black cotton here. She also sent along some brown, another color I can't get here. So, today I'm playing with colors I don't normally get to.
