December socks & 2015 sock plans

I finished knitting my December socks on New Years Eve, they were my first ever cuff down socks. I knit them as ankle socks and they fit, mostly well. I found that my gauge seemed to be much tighter knitting cuff down, I may have been feeling a bit more tense than usual during the week I was knitting them, so that's probably the reason for the tight gauge. At some point I'll give cuff down socks another try though. These socks were made from Schoppel-Wolle Crazy Zauberball, I love this yarn and can't wait to buy more, I love the color changes.

I plan on continuing to knit a pair of socks each month in 2015. In addition to taking part in Liesl's monthly sock challenge, I'm taking part in the Personal Mystery Sock Yarn Club. You pick yarns for the year and then put them into brown paper bags, each month you choose a bag and knit socks from that yarn. This is something I wanted to do this year anyway, but I'm really glad that there are other people doing it now too, it gave me a kick in the butt to really get it done. There's a tag on instagram to follow, #personalmysterysockclub2015 and there's a thread in the My Sister's Knitter ravelry group to follow.

I don't have a big sock yarn stash, so I only had enough that I could fill six brown bags. I'll more than likely be buying more sock yarn to add more bags during the year. Some people added sock patterns to go with their yarns but I'm just going to pick a pattern once I see what yarn I'm using. Last year, I knit a lot of vanilla socks but this year I'm going to try to pick out more patterned socks, there's just so many great ones out there to try!

I chose my January yarn on New Years Day and was really happy that it turned out to be some new yarn that I was gifted in a Christmas swap I did through instagram. It's Knitsomniac Designs Sleepy Sock yarn in Frankenstein's Monster colorway. The yarn is so soft and squishy, I'm loving knitting with it!

I'm knitting my socks using Rye by Tin Can Knits. The pattern is simple but it looks so amazing! I am very much in love with it already, I can't wait to have a finished pair. I already have my first sock off the needles!

Those are my sock plans for the year! I decided against making real goals for the year because I'm not very good at sticking to them, I hate going back and seeing what I didn't do at all at the end of a year! This year, I'm planning on being as laid back as possible with my crafting. There's going to be lots of sock knitting and of course crochet! For blogging, I'm going to try to post at least once a week, maybe more than that soon though.

Did you make goals or resolutions for 2015? If you did, I'd love to hear some!

So that's how that mystery KAL works. That's some funky green you're knitting with. It has personality. Your first cuff down came out great.
Your socks are lovely and the new green one looks amazing the pattern and the colour are fab. I hope you achieve your goal of 1pair a month in 2015. My first pair of socks has been on the needles for over a year now! I have knitted my first monthly duck to support the Yellow Duck project for organ donation awareness but a pair of socks a month deserves admiration indeed. Good luck and enjoy more yarn buying for the last 6mths of 2015.
Those socks look great! I'm an avid sock knitter - I always have at least one pair on the needles, as they are just so fun to knit! :-)
I think I might give this a try for the remainder of my sock challenge! I've been shocking myself with all the surprises I've been willingly engaging in lately. But this is great because I already know I'll love all the yarns I have in the bags and it makes my monthly sock decision for me. No more getting caught up on, "What should I knit this month?"

Love the way your Rye Socks are looking so far. That pattern has been in my queue for a while and I hope to knit it someday too. :) Can't wait to see your socks this year!
That is some cool green yarn - looks like mint chip ice cream. My goal is to knit more yards than I did last year - kind of simple. I did the monthly sock challenge a few years ago and loved having that goal throughout the year. Good luck!
The yarn also reminds me of mint. What a lovely mystery kal Andi has put up! Beautiful socks!
This is a great plan for 2015! The bonus is that you'll have 12 pairs of nifty toe warmers by the time the holidays roll around once again. I do something similar, but I skip the bags. I reach into the sock yarn stash bin and knit up whatever comes out. It is always a surprise!

I'm a toe-up kind of gal. I rarely knit cuff down anymore (unless a pattern is too much work to convert). I never could get the tension right for the cuff and the socks tended to be a bit on the tight side when I put them on because of that. I love toe-ups. I also love a good gusset heel, which is easy to stitch when knitting toe-up.

Nice job on those socks and good luck for the year ahead! I'm looking forward to seeing your monthly creations.
This current yarn looks like pistachio ice cream that my mom used to eat. Talk about awakening memories--many thanks. Can't wait to see how the sox go; I may join you at some point altho likely crocheting them as it's much easier for me.
That is quite surprising... I have never heard of that before reading your post!
It makes me quite puzzled and angry too!
