A Tale of Two Yarns // 2KCBWDAY1

Day One: A Tale of Two Yarns.
Part of any fibre enthusiast’s hobby is an appreciation of yarn. Choose two yarns that you have either used, are in your stash or which you yearn after and capture what it is you love or loathe about them.

If you've been to my blog before, then you probably won't be surprised by what my favorite yarn is. Cotton, specifically Bernat Handicrafter cottons. I'm open to trying others of course, but that's the brand that's available here. I use cotton pretty much all of the time, I use it to make my potholders, which is what I make most out of crochet.

1. potholder swap 2011, 2. black hexagon potholder, 3. Untitled, 4. rose potholder, 5. granny mandala potholder, 6. tried to look pretty potholders, 7. pretty pot holder, 8. turtle pot holder, 9. Christmasy Grandma Potholder

A yarn that I'm not fond of is Red Heart Super Savers. It's an extremely afforable yarn but I find it to be far too itchy to use for most things. I've only used the yarn once but will probably never use it again. I used it to make this pumpkin bat, it was to supposed to just be a Halloween decoration, so I didn't mind that it was itchy.

  1. Love your post for Knit and Crochet Blog Week (which I'm also participating in this year!) I love that you chose to mention Red Heart Super Saver because several other people did as well and the opinions on it seem so divided! I'm not a fan of it in most cases but have used it for some projects and think it's fine for a cheap yarn.

  2. Wow! What gorgeous potholders! The colors have that amazing brightness that you can only get in cotton.

  4. Your crochet looks amazing! Such great photos too.

I particularly love the lower left hand flower in purple and yellow. It looks just like a purple pansy.

  6. Your crochet is amazing. My talent in crochet is limited to using a hook to pick up dropped stitches on my knitting projects! I am in crochet envy!

  7. I also like Bernat Cotton. I've been using it this week to weave a rug, and have also recently made some kitchen towels out of it. I've found that the yarn is great for home projects--like your lovely potholders--but certainly not ideal for fashion (WAY too heavy). Thanks for the yarn insight!

  9. Ha! Ha! That's precisely what I do with yarns I will not use for a larger project.

  11. I get my cotton by the cone at the LYS. It's wonderful. :) Don't use it for potholders, though-- I've got this unshakable feeling that one day it's going to catch fire on me! It's great for making grocery bags out of, though.
