I learned to knit!

knitting

Crazy, right!? I bought some size 5 bamboo knitting needles, sat down with my Bernat Handicrafter cotton (batik) and spent my weekend learning!

There was a learn to knit mini series at Make It and Love It a few months ago that I wanted to do but never got to it. It was hosted by Rebecca Danger who makes the cutest knitted monsters! I want her book even if I never get good enough to make the patterns.

Anyway, using her tutorials and the youtube videos she linked to, I learned how to knit and purl! I got bored by the second cloth and started doing my own thing. They aren't exactly pretty but they'll still be useful as dishcloths.

So, there you have it, I can now knit! I like doing it, it's fun but I don't think it will take over my crafting time anytime soon, crochet is still my main craft.

  2. Knitting is something of a different creature than crochet, isn't it? I learned to knit years ago, but abandoned it in favor of crochet, because I'm much better at hooking than needling. Congratulations on your new-found talent! It's always good to be flexible in your crafting abilities. :)

  3. I always wanted to learn how to knit! I'm a crochet-minded person, but I've got plenty of little books on knitting stacked away on my shelves, you know, for justin case :) Posts like these inspire me to pick it up! You probably know Crochet with Raymond, Alice's blog, she crochets too but also started knitting theses amazing looking socks! You would really love it :)

  5. I'm so happy you learned to knit. I have been knitting for 25 years, wow I sound so old. I have been crocheting for only about 4 years. There are amazing things you can do with both mediums and I think that knowing how to do both really opens you up to so many more patterns. I love to combine them both in a project. Good for you!!!!

  6. Hey, well done you! It's great to hear about people learning new things. I can knit, but much prefer crochet!

It would be great if you'd come and link up at my Learn a New Technique Linky - I'm trying to encourage other crafters to learn something knew and I'm compiling a list of crafts + information and tutorials on all kinds of things. It'd be great to have you!

  9. I love to knit! Your crochet is great so I know you'll get better with practice. I have the Monster knitting book and it's great and so much fun!! You could probably convert the patterns to crochet by looking at them too. Lots of luck!!

  13. Yey for you! It's always satisfying to learn a new skill. I'm a relative beginner knitter and crocheter, and have several projects of each on the go at the moment, but currently finding myself in favour of knitting at the moment! I'm sure it'll change over in another few months.
