Do you remember I said that this year I wanted to save up all my yarn ends in a pretty little container? Well, I'm not sure it was those words exactly but I implied it. I think. Anyway, I started on the first of January and these are the bits I've snipped off so far.
I haven't gotten a pretty container to put it all into just yet, it's hard to find something I won't get sick of. So, for now, I've got it in a ziplock container. All year long I will be filling my container with the bits of yarn I snip off from projects. And I'll share what I've got every so often, maybe once a month?
Why am I doing this? Because it's pretty to look at. And next spring, I'll give them all up to the birds to pretty up their nests.
I used to do this with my cross stitch thread. Maybe I'll just have to start with my yarn too.
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing. I separate them by the various types of yarn because we use the wool ones for felting, but I have several vintage glass jars on my yarn shelf filled with colorful bits of yarn. My friend told me that they are called "orts". I love that.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your colorful stash of orts.
My mom does this with her cross stitch thread, and I have always thought about it, because of how pretty the yarn bits look when they pile up on my table... My husband would probably flip lol, but that is such a good idea to give them to the birds in the spring!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteThere are going to be alot of pretty nests around! I do that too, after I get a good collection I put outside in the trees or bush.
ReplyDeleteI did this too, thought it was a brilliant idea, until the container was knocked over and all the little threads fell out onto the carpet.....
ReplyDeleteThat's a neat idea! Use a big glass tea jar. That would be nice to look at.
ReplyDeleteI did that a few years ago and then stopped, but I think I will begin again and use a big glass tea jar like Pammy Sue suggested.
ReplyDeleteI do this and then use them for art projects for the little girl that I babysit. They make pretty collages.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....interesting.
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest something? I saw this idea on another blog, only with thread snips. If you celebrate Christmas, get a clear plastic or glass bulb and put the snippets in there! Then you'll have an ornament that is a reminder of all the nice crochet work you have done.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how they all add up and so quickly!
ReplyDeleteHello! What a lovely thought for the birds! I started to save them also when I made "Nero's blanket" but after a while I thought there is too many things I like to save just because...so I didn't continue...should I start again...I love your crafts!
ReplyDeleteSunny wishes from Crete! Teje
I've been doing this too...though I hadn't thought to put them in a pretty container, at the moment they are in a big plastic bag! A jar sounds like a much better idea, I've been using them to stuff little toys and things I've made.
ReplyDeleteI save my yarn threads too. I put them in a pretty vase just to look at. I found a neat container to use outdoors to put the threads in this spring for the birds.
ReplyDeleteHi Casey. So happy to see you at Tangled Happy! You have so many beautiful things posted here. And I love this idea. Saw something like this at The Crafty Crow. Need to start a stash so we will be ready this spring. Fun!
ReplyDeleteOk, grrreat idea. You're so clever!
ReplyDeleteDont mean to damper yr very kind idea re birds having the wool scraps in their nests..We had an incident a few yrs back..My daughter put some acrylic yarn in birds feeders outside.. We discovered one little felow had acrylic caught around his /her little leg.. Looked like the bird couldnt get the yarn off the leg.. New England, Oz..
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeletelast year I collected my scraps, too and then threw them away, because I had no idea what to do with them. Now I started again and put them in a nice jar after I found this blog entry:

I think this is kinda inspiring and now I want to do something like this by myself (o;
