babette DONE

babette

The last time I posted about Babette was in April when I had finished all the sections. Now almost 3 months later, I finally have the border added and it is done! I was still using the blanket unfinished anyway so that's probably why it took me so long to finish.

The border is one row of chocolate and two of rouge. I kind of liked the unfinished look a bit better, no clue why. But, it's done and I can cross it off my WIP list.

Some info you might want to know about Babette:
I used a size 5.5 hook, the pattern calls for a size 3.5 but I wanted a big and drapey blanket so I went for a bigger hook.

I used Loops & Threads Impeccable Solids yarn in chocolate, true gray, aqua, butterscotch, rouge, white, pumpkin, soft taupe, soft fern, lavender, grass, grape, and soft rose.

To join all the squares, I slip stitched them together using white yarn, you can see a photo of that in this post.

The Babette pattern can be purchased here from Interweave.

I love my babette, I'm so glad that I decided to take on this pattern this year! I have plans for more babette goodness soon too!

babette in progress

Babette update, the latest section is on the right. Lots of two rounders, I really don't enjoy making those ones.

Just one more section left to crochet for babette! It may take a bit of time, there are a lot of squares in the last one. This blanket has been so much fun to work on.

babette progress

babette progress

I've got secion 7 added now. Again, I'm loving her more and more. I don't think I will get sick of this blanket anytime soon.

I have to put her aside for a little while now to work on some other things, mostly potholders.

babette

babette progress

This is how Babette looks right this very minute. Isn't she turning out great? The more squares I make, the more in love with it I am falling! All the colors make me ridiculously happy. The 2 round squares are looking very rounded when they're attached but I'm actually liking that look.

I've had a few people ask me how exactly I am joining the squares together. I am joining by slip stitching. I put two squares right sides together and slip stitch through the back loops. Here is how the back looks.

Not super pretty looking but it doesn't bother me. I won't be showing off the back when I'm finished, I'm using white to join the squares. You can see a detailed tutorial on how to slip stitch squares together on Attic24 here.

I'll have another babette update this week, I have another section ready to join!

babette

babette

I finished adding sections 4 & 5 to the babette last night. I love how it's coming together. I keep finding new favorite squares.

I'm doing this blanket in sections like the pattern suggests. And instead of sewing all the squares together, I'm slip stitching them together. I don't feel like using a needle too much, I use it enough to weave in all the ends and there are less chances to stab myself this way! (I've got a few wounds already) The slip stitching doesn't make the back look too neat but I'm not all that concerned with it, as long as I'm happy with the front.

babette:

babette

Here is what I have done with my babette so far, this is sections 1-3. The squares are looking incredibly wonky! It's fine, I'm hoping they will all end up looking okay in the end.

When I was making the squares, I wasn't too happy with how the color combos were coming together but now that they're together, I don't hate them too much.

I love working on this blanket!

babette

pretty yarn

I'm really excited about starting this project! Ever since I first learned to crochet, I've seen pictures of the Babette everywhere. I will admit at first, I wasn't a fan of it but it has definitely grown on me, so much that I'm going to make one myself!

The pattern calls for 17 colors but I've only got 13 (12 in the picture), so colors are going to get used twice. I haven't figured out which colors go where just yet, I'm hoping I get them set up right so that there's not too much grouping of one color. At first I thought I would choose colors randomly as I went but I've decided to follow the pattern. Less stress that way.

I'm using Loops & Threads Impeccable Solids in these colors:
chocolate
true gray
aqua
butterscotch
rouge
white
pumpkin
soft taupe
soft fern
lavender
grass
grape
soft rose (not pictured)

Hopefully next week I'll have a bit of progress to share! Have a great weekend everyone!
